"Bench
Monster"
Ryan Kennelly
No
one enjoys a Muscle Sandwich more than powerlifting champion Ryan
Kennelly. We just saw him recently at the Arnold Expo in Columbus,
OH and The Fit Expo in Pasadena, CA. Before he lifted, we stocked
him and the other power lifters with plenty of Muscle Sandwiches.
Ryan "BenchMonster"
Kennelly returned to the FitExpo this February to reclaim his title
of Mendelson Classic Hwt. Champion. The title was lost to Paul Meeker
last year by way of a controversial judging decision and an overturned
lift (giving the winning bench back to Meeker.) This year Kennelly
wasn't having any of the foolishness and, amongst a bomb fest (all
but 2 of the benchers failed to post successful lifts, partly because
they were almost all wearing the credibility damaging, artificially
enhanced, new generation of "benchpress shirts" which
stopped the bar from touching their chest, forced them to use weights
that they could not lock out and/or to lose control of a weight
that they would have had no business trying to lift without the
shirt's boost in the first place.) Kennelly was victorious with
an astounding 909 pound bench for the win!
The following month, the BenchMonster showed up at the Arnold Classic,
weighing in at the largest I've ever seen him which, for a giant
like Kennelly, is quite a statement! He tipped the scales at 331
solid pound and again took the gold medal at the Arnold Classic
WPO Benchpress Championships with a bench of 902 pounds! This was
Kennelly's 4th win at the Arnold Classic. A feat made all the more
impressive by the fact that no one else has even won even twice
at that prestigious event.
